What should be paid attention to when designing kid and baby hair accessories?

The design of kid and baby hair accessories must take into account both beauty and safety, especially for the physiological characteristics of the 0-12 year old group. When designing, it is necessary to strictly control the three aspects of material selection, structural process and functional adaptation to build a solid safety line.

Kid and Baby Hair Accessories

Material safety is the primary premise. Baby hair accessories (0-3 years old) must use non-irritating materials such as food-grade silicone, pure cotton, and logs, avoid using chemical fibers and inferior plastics (including phthalates), and metal accessories must comply with GB 28480 standards (lead content ≤0.01%), and the surface must be rounded and polished (roughness Ra≤0.8μm) to prevent scratches on delicate skin. Although the hair accessories for children over 3 years old can be appropriately relaxed, small beads, sequins and other easy-to-fall-off parts must be eliminated to reduce the risk of accidental swallowing.

Structural design needs to avoid safety hazards. Products such as hairpins and hair bands must pass the "tensile test" (withstand 50N force without falling off) to prevent small parts from loosening; the tightness of the hairband must be strictly controlled (elongation 20%-30%), and the width of the baby version must be ≥3cm to prevent strangulation of the head or affect blood circulation. It is prohibited to design sharp edges and corners (radius of fillet ≥2mm), and decorations such as bows and flowers must use an overall sewing process instead of glue bonding to avoid falling off after getting wet.

Functions are adapted to different growth stages. Hair accessories for infants (0-1 years old) are based on the principle of "no pressure", and elastic cotton headbands (clipless) are recommended to avoid oppression of the fontanelle; large-sized hairpins (length ≥5cm) can be selected for toddlers (1-3 years old), with non-slip silicone pads to prevent slipping; hair accessories for school age (3-12 years old) can be more functional, such as sports headbands with reflective strips (visible distance ≥50 meters at night), taking into account both beauty and safety.

In addition, the design of kid and baby hair accessories must comply with relevant standards, such as the EU EN 71-12 chemical and physical safety requirements for children's accessories and the domestic GB 31701 safety technical specifications for infant and children's textile products. Only by passing safety tests + age-appropriate design can children's hair accessories meet the decorative needs and become "gentle accessories" to protect children's safety.
